What makes Calming Reins unique is the ability to combine traditional talk therapy with evidence-based therapy, nature-based therapy, or equine-assisted therapy, all at the pace and level that suits you. Whether you’re more comfortable on the couch talking face-to-face, walking on a trail through the beautiful Snoqualmie valley, or sharing together in the pasture with horses, I can tailor every session to your needs.

Calming Reins offers both individual therapy and group therapy.
Evidence-Based Therapy
Evidence-based therapies are therapeutic approaches that have been scientifically tested and proven to be effective in treating various mental health conditions. I specialize in the following:

-
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): focuses on helping individuals manage intense emotions, develop coping skills, and improve relationships through mindfulness and emotional regulation. IT
-
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP): is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that helps individuals confront and reduce their fear responses to anxiety-provoking situations in a controlled way.
-
SPACE Therapy (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions): is designed to support parents in helping their children manage anxiety by providing tools to encourage coping and independence.
Equine Assisted Therapy
At Calming Reins, equine therapy is quiet, relational, and fully grounded — literally and emotionally. There's no riding, no pressure, and no agenda beyond connection. Sessions are guided by evidence-based practices like talk therapy, DBT skills, and ERP exposures, with the added support of a co-regulating relationship between client and horse.

This work can be especially helpful for people who feel stuck in traditional therapy, or who feel most at ease in outdoor or animal-supported environments.
Nature-Based Therapy
Nature-based therapy, also known as eco-therapy, integrates the natural environment into the therapeutic process to promote healing, reduce stress, and foster connection with oneself and others. At Calming Reins, this approach is personalized to each individual, offering activities such as mindful walking, visiting horses, or simply being in nature.
Research shows that nature-based therapy is effective in treating conditions like anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction. By incorporating the outdoors into therapy, individuals can experience grounding, resilience, and a deeper connection to the world around them.
