Meet the Horses
At Calming Reins Counseling, horses are more than part of the setting — they’re our partners in the work. Equine therapy here is quiet, relational, and fully grounded (literally and emotionally). There’s no riding, no pressure, and no agenda beyond connection.

Sessions with horses invite clients to slow down, notice patterns, explore relationship dynamics, and practice emotional regulation in real-time — all while spending time with an animal who responds with honesty, sensitivity, and presence. The bond that can grow between client and horse is often healing in ways that words alone can’t reach.

Each horse at Calming Reins brings their own personality, history, and wisdom into the process.

Heraklion’s My Hero (“Hero”)
Thoroughbred | 18 years old | Blue Spruce Farm – Carnation, WA

Hero is the heart of the equine therapy program. A former eventing horse turned therapy partner, he brings a calm, grounded energy to every session. He’s playful and expressive with younger clients, steady and attuned for those processing trauma or grief, and always eager for a carrot or quiet walk.

He lives with a small herd at Blue Spruce Farm and is often found flat-out napping in the dirt before a session — a dandelion or a snack is usually all it takes to get him up and ready to work.

Peppered Peregrine (“Perry”)
Quarter Horse | 11 years old | Tail Spin Farm – Duvall, WA

Perry is full of spark, energy, and opinions. Trained in liberty work and eventing, he thrives on movement and connection. He brings humor and curiosity to every session — and if you're lucky, you might catch him chasing Blaze and Trixie around the field in a scene that's equal parts ridiculous and heartwarming.

Outrageous Blaze (“Blaze”)
Appendix | 29 years old | Tail Spin Farm – Duvall, WA

Blaze is the wise elder of the Tail Spin herd. A retired eventing and Pony Club horse, he now offers his calm, steady presence to clients. He loves being groomed, often stands quietly alongside clients in need of a grounded space, and treats everyone — human or horse — with quiet kindness.

Trixie
Miniature Horse | 17 years old | Tail Spin Farm – Duvall, WA

Trixie is small but mighty. Before her owner brought her to live at Tail Spin, she was shy and cautious. Since participating in therapy sessions, she’s become more confident and curious — offering a sweet, quiet presence that many clients connect with deeply. Watching her trot after Blaze and Perry to stay in the mix is always a joy.
